Summer reads... or listens

Summer road trips call for good books on tape. Over the last few weeks I've been listening to books by Deb Caletti and absolutely loving them! The first book, The Fortunes of Indigo Skye, is about an 18 year old waitress who gets a 2.5 million dollar tip that turns her world upside down. We got sucked into her world, full of detail and odd characters you can't help but love. The second book we listened to was Honey, Baby, Sweetheart (also by Deb Caletti) and it's about 16 year old Ruby who has spent her highschool years as the quiet girl, but finds herself hanging out with the dangerous, rich, handsome Travis Becker and getting in way over her head. In an effort to keep Ruby away from Travis, Ruby's mom, Ann brings her along to the weekly book club she runs. When one of the members turns out to be the character of a tragic love story the group is reading they head on a road trip to bring the lovers together. But the road trip turns out to be so much more then Ruby ever expected. Deb Caletti brings another level of detail into her stories, you can just picture the story unravelling and the characters growing and connecting. Her books make you laugh, cry, and grow along with her characters. I fully recommend her books to anyone looking for a good read. Honey, Baby, Sweetheart and The Fortunes of Indigo Skye by Deb Caletti sound recordings can be found at the Almonte Library (once I return them). ~Kea
